Reckon Elite Practice Management

We are excited to announce that we have made available new versions of Reckon Elite Practice Management to early adopters. This includes two versions, Practice Management (Professional) & Practice Management (Enterprise). The new versions move to an SQL platform, allowing for greater stability and moving towards expanding functionality & data mining capabilities.

There are two SQL databases that are supported, Microsoft SQL Server (2005 & 2008), and an embedded SQL database that will allow users to operate in a similar way to the existing market version of the software.

Practice Management (Professional)

Practice Management (Professional) only supports the embedded SQL database, and limits permission functionality that mimics the existing version of the product. It benefits from the SQL technology (as noted above) and still maintains the simplicity of installation and operation that Reckon Elite users currently enjoy.

Practice Management (Enterprise)

Practice Management (Enterprise) will allow the choice between the two SQL databases. With the Enterprise version aimed at larger practices, there is a new security model that allows you to control the access to data and functions within the software via the full functionality of user & user group permissions and filtering options.

New improvements and features

As well as the improved stability with an SQL database, there are other new improvements and features that apply to both the Professional & Enterprise versions, such as new Tax Agent and database restore wizards, enhancements to client details, tax agents, users/managers/offices/partners, appointment diary, lodgement, plus more.

Data Conversion

Moving away from the old database structure means that a data conversion will need to be performed to bring forward your existing Practice Management data into the new software.

We have found that even in the cleanest of databases, data anomalies can still occur. Over time we have put error checks and on-screen warnings for incomplete or incorrect data. For our clients who have stayed with us for a long time, data keying errors or minor data issues can occur. For example, prior to valid data entry checks on email addresses, some clients entered all manner of data into these fields. The conversion process will identify such issues and either not bring the invalid data over, or try to resolve an issue where it is possible. In some situations, you may be prompted to return to your original data, correct the issues first and then re-convert the corrected data.

Please note:

  • Before installing any of the new versions and running through the conversion process, you MUST backup ALL existing databases. This will ensure you have something to go back to in the event of any data loss during the transition process.
  • This is not a mandatory update, as the existing version of Practice Management (1.8.26.1) is still being supported until the end of 2010.
  • To support the new Practice Management releases, there are also new versions of Assets and TimeCost & TimeSheets. These ensure there will be no disruption for clients under the new SQL database structure.
